OMAR CERF/OCHA Funded Demining Project-2024 Documentary 27 September 2024
On September 27, 2024, the OMAR (Organization for Mine Clearance and Afghan Rehabilitation) team proudly documented the remarkable achievements of the OMAR CERF/OCHA-funded demining project 2024 from May to 27 September 2024. This initiative has transformed a total of 363,414 square meters of hazardous land, meticulously cleared of landmines and unexploded ordnance across five districts: Puli Khumri, Dahana-i-Ghuri, Burka, Chahar Dara, and Khanabad in Baghlan and Kunduz provinces. From this newly secured area, OMAR teams successfully neutralized 40 anti-personnel landmines, 54 AIM-abandoned improvised landmines, and over 1,023 unexploded ordnances (UXOs).
Through OMAR’s intensive efforts, 8,149 community members—including children and elders—were educated about the risks posed by these deadly remnants, building a safer, more informed society. Additionally, 66 civilian casualties were reported, highlighting the ongoing impact of these hazards.
The cleared land now offers new opportunities for 33,474 direct beneficiaries and 124,334 indirect beneficiaries, who can safely utilize the reclaimed areas for roads, agriculture, housing, and educational institutions, including schools and madrasas. This documentary shines a light on OMAR’s mission to restore Afghanistan’s landscapes, transforming once-dangerous terrain into grounds for growth, safety, and a hopeful future.
