OMAR Bamyan NZDF Firing Range Project Documentary

While NATO was based in Afghanistan, the NZDF forces were settled in Bamyan province to practice Military training, during their activities the New Zealand ordnance could impact local civilians. After their withdrawal from Bamyan, the Ordnance remained life-threatening to local civilians, and therefore in order to help provide safe land back to the people, NZDF announced a clearing project which was won by OMAR in April 2020. Through this project, OMAR destroyed 1,127 items of unexploded ordnance/explosive remnants of war (UXO/ERW) including Anti-Personnel & Anti Vehicles Mines and cleared 56 sqm km Firing Ranges, making the lands safer for locals to use. OMAR provided EORE to 12,269 individuals through an Explosive Ordnance Risk Education program with an approach of identifying UXO/ERWs risk mitigation and conducting safer behavior. Another approach through the Victim Assistance program was delivered to 11,540 PWD’s Physical Rehabilitation Services, such as Prosthetic, Orthotic, Physiotherapy, psychosocial services across Bamyan province. The local communities of Bamyan province are deeply appreciative and thankful to the New Zealand NZDF and OMAR’s services.
