Mr. Fazel Karim Fazel

Mr. Fazel Karim Fazel was born in Nangarhar province in 1955 and spent most of his life abroad, he held his Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from Boston University in early 1990, previously Mr. Fazel Karim’s career approach began in late 1990 as an internship in an International Organization for Migration in Washington DC and thrived its career goal as an Executive Acting Director.


Mr. Fazel Karim Fazel is the founder of the Organization for Mine Clearance and Afghan Rehabilitation (OMAR) NGO. An expert and inspirational personality focused on the country’s socio-economic development with nearly 32 years of experience. Having a background with multiple awards in serving the country and working very closely with Humanitarian Mine Action and sister NGOs prior to achieving its goals of clearing the contaminated lands, destroying Mine/ERWs, delivery of risk education in impacted communities, enhancing capacities towards explosives, and conducting of the land release for productive land usage. Besides, enabling access to schools, medical care centers, market facilities, roads, irrigation systems, and agricultural and grazing lands, Mr. Fazel Karim made this work possible by his core contributions and a solid response to the community needs. One of his fundamental commitments is to clear lands and safe lives, meanwhile expanding knowledge of Afghan children and adults in impacted communities is his needs-driven approach.

OMAR, a non-profit, non-government Organization was established in 1990 by Mr. Fazel Karim. In the initial stage Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) approach and great efforts to keep Afghan communities alerted and informed of the danger of Mine/ERWs by spreading initial EORE awareness across the country. In the year 1992, OMAR expanded its services by aligning its operation in the mine clearance sector, and as a result, OMAR has so far cleared over 240 km of contaminated land in 33 provinces in Afghanistan from the Mine.
